Dr Umar holds a PhD in linguistics with specialization in CALL, teacher development and open & distance learning. He has been  working as Associate Professor at Taif University English Language Centre, Saudi Arabia. Besides teaching, he is supervising Quality Assurance Unit at the Centre. He has taught at various universities in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and has published articles in reputable international research journals. He has thirty years of teaching experience at university level in Pakistan and abroad. He has published 3 books and more than 40 research articles in international as well as in pakistani journals. He has been an active member of many organizations like Higher Education Commission Pakistan, National Committee on English Pakistan, Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers, TESOL Arabia, KSA Association of Language Teachers, etc. His interest areas are teacher development, e-learning, and sociolinguistics. Also, he has contributed to the field of language teaching as a member of the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers and Pakistan Higher Education Commission National Committee on English, etc
